What do the Royal Family, politicians, and A-list celebrities all have in common? Many of them have been dressed by none other than Søren Le Schmidt. Known for his skillful and exquisite tailoring, Søren’s creations have taken center stage during some of the most significant moments in Danish history! Growing up in Jutland, in an environment that fostered creativity and self-expression, he was inspired by his grandmother’s sewing room, where he began designing at an early age. The values of Søren’s upbringing are reflected in his home today. And what does ‘home’ mean for him? It’s a place where there is room for everyone and everything. Visiting his home, it's clear that while Søren Le Schmidt may be a prominent figure in Danish design, it’s family and home that’s of utmost importance to him. He is both a visionary and a man of action, continuing to expand his vision while firmly rooted.

What kind of environment did you grow up in, and how has it shaped you, your style, and your goals today?

I grew up in a safe and loving family consisting of my mother, father, and sister. We lived in a home in Jutland, where there was both physical and mental freedom. There was plenty of room to express ourselves, and creativity was allowed to flourish in every corner of the house. Our home was filled with warmth, presence, and love, which gave me a strong emotional foundation and inspired me to always think freely and creatively. It was a place where we were all encouraged to pursue our dreams and be ourselves.

How did you and your family end up in this townhouse in the heart of Copenhagen?

By chance, we got the townhouse in the heart of Copenhagen. It was through some acquaintances that we suddenly had the opportunity to move into the house. However, it is only rented, so we’re enjoying it for as long as it lasts.

Can you describe your home for us?

My home has a relatively simple and minimalist style, furnished with a mix of modern designs, various Danish classics, and unique flea market finds. This combination creates a home that is both stylish and inviting, where every item has its own story and meaning. It is a calm and harmonious space, which also reflects my personal taste and the experiences I value. There's room for everyone here, making it a cozy haven where you can relax and feel at home. I strive to create an atmosphere that encourages togetherness and creative moments, where both family and friends can feel welcome.

What was the first fashion/creative experience you can remember?

I have always had a great interest in fashion and, since I was a child, have sought out various fashion magazines. My grandmother was a great inspiration to me, and her sewing room served as a sanctuary where I could express my creativity. At the age of six, I sewed and designed my first blazer, and I think I subconsciously knew that this was the path I wanted to follow in life.

Where do you go for inspiration?

I draw a lot of inspiration from a wide range of people, cultures, and places from all over the world. When I travel, I often find that inspiration flows to me in a completely natural way. I rarely seek out anything specific – instead, ideas and impressions often come on their own, like an organic process when I encounter exciting destinations or meet people with unique perspectives. It’s in the encounter with the unknown and the unpredictable that I find the greatest source of creativity. Traveling allows me to immerse myself in different cultures and experience new ways of thinking and living, constantly expanding my horizons and giving me fresh energy and ideas. It’s in these spontaneous moments, when I see something unexpected or hear a fascinating story, that my creativity truly blossoms.

What project(s) you are working on right now?

Currently, I am working on developing several exciting design collaborations with various companies, which will be launched during 2025. Unfortunately, I can't reveal all the details at this point, but I can say that I am moving in a new and inspiring direction within home decor and interior design. It’s an area that really fascinates me, where I see great potential to create something unique and innovative. My creative process has evolved significantly in this direction, and I am really looking forward to sharing the result when the time is right. It’s going to be an exciting journey, and I look forward to presenting some designs that not only unite aesthetics and functionality but also bring new life and personality into the home.

If you weren't working as a designer, what would you be doing?

If I weren’t working as a designer, I could easily see myself as an architect. At the same time, my heart truly beats for working with children’s and youth creativity. There is an enormous creativity in them that we should embrace and value much more. I believe it's important to give them space to express their ideas and imagination because this is where the future of innovation and new thinking can flourish.

What makes me proud?

I feel a deep sense of pride and joy when I see my children playing together. It’s something I truly love watching – the magic that my twins share.

What is a quality you greatly appreciate in other people?

Honesty is without a doubt one of the most essential qualities I value in others, whether it's in relationships with friends, family, or professional collaborators. For me, honesty isn’t just about telling the truth, but also about being authentic and true to oneself. It creates deep trust and a strong bond between people when you know you can always rely on the other person’s sincerity. Alongside honesty comes loyalty as an equally important value. Loyalty is about standing by each other through both good and challenging times, about being there for one another, even when it requires something extra. The combination of honesty and loyalty is, for me, the foundation of all meaningful relationships because these two qualities ensure mutual respect, trust, and stability in any form of relationship.

What do you want to accomplish in the next five years?

I want to engage even more in various TV productions in the future. At the same time, my brand is in constant development, and it naturally requires attention to grow. Additionally, I dream of working much more with children’s and youth creativity, as it is an area that really inspires me.

What do you appreciate the most in your home?

I love the light and spaciousness our home has. There’s plenty of room for all of us, which makes it possible to have guests while the twins can play freely. The home feels both open and airy, while the decor reflects our personalities and who lives here – a mix of newer designs combined with various flea market finds and quirky art from different travels.

How would you describe the feeling of home?

For me, the word home means a place where there’s room for everyone. A place with freedom, where you can relax and recharge.

How do the MAGMA sofas fit into your decor?

I am truly excited about MAGMA's design, which combines organic shapes with a certain stringency, fitting perfectly into my architectural interior style. The soft, curved lines add a natural dynamism to the room, while the structured form creates a nice balance and calm. The brown bouclé texture adds a warm and inviting feel, softening the decor and harmonizing beautifully with the artwork we have on the walls. It creates a cohesive space where textures, shapes, and colors interact in a way that is both elegant and inviting.
