As a social media manager in the real estate industry, she brings her creative aesthetic into every corner of the home she shares with her boyfriend and their rescue dog, Kobe.With subtle chrome accents, abundant natural light, and soothing neutral tones, Jean has crafted a polished minimalist retreat from the city's vibrant energy. For those who don't know you, would you like to introduce yourself?

My name is Jean Fischer (pronounced like the Jean in “Billie Jean”), I am 29 years old and have been living in Berlin since 2022, together with my boyfriend of 4 years. Just recently our dog Kobe moved in with us, a beautiful 5-year-old American Staffordshire Terrier who has been a shelter dog for over a year and is now living his best life and getting spoiled by us. I work as a social media manager in the real estate industry where I can bring in my creative character. My hobbies are also mostly creative, whether if it’s creating new artworks on canvas that I’ll hang in our home, completing the interior decor or simply fashion – but also just hanging out with my friends and my dog.

What’s your process of turning a house into a home? Are there any essentials that make you feel at home, or how do you create this feeling?

Since we have only moved into our current apartment in May 2024 the process is still ongoing with some rooms that still need their final touches. But most important for me is to create a calm and cozy home because even though I’m a rather extroverted person I’m also very homey and love to spend time by myself just chilling on the couch. And since we live in a quite loud and vibrant part of Berlin, I wanted to create a soothing and calm home which for me means minimalism, no clutter and neutral colors, warm tones, much natural light and natural textures and materials – especially my living room for me feels like a warm hug.

How does life look right now?

2024 has been a year with a lot of firsts and changes. I’ve never lived in a home as spacious before, just started a new job and can also finally call myself a dog mom – a dream I had since I was a child. These and many other reasons make me feel very content and happy with life right now.

What’s the dream?

I’m a rational and realistic person and for some reason never really reflected where I want to be in 2 or 5 or 10 years. So far everything in my past has worked out just fine and I’m happy where I am right now. I don’t have a strong drive for this dream but if I would have to choose anything it would be traveling and seeing more of the world and ultimately living in a warm climate year-round.

Is there anything life has taught you that you would like to pass on?

Everything works out in the end and if it doesn’t it at least made you stronger.

What’s your best advice when moving to a new city?

When I moved to Berlin in 2022 together with my boyfriend, I didn’t know anybody else here and was missing my close group of girlfriends and the board game nights, wine talks and other activities that came with it. Some new colleagues then turned into really good friends but what I was most successful with was “online-dating” for friends. There are several apps that include a “BFF” mode where you can swipe through profiles of other girlies that are looking for their kinda people. A couple great friendships started that way.

The atmosphere and decor I wanted to create in our home…

is giving warm hug with a mixture of textures and materials to create contrast. For example, in the living room the FRIDAY couch is the centre piece of the room and to enhance the soft and plush pillow look I added brushed aluminium details in the decor to balance it out.

Whenever I need inspiration…

I turn to Pinterest and interior accounts that I love.

Art for me is…

a process of bringing the thoughts and ideas in your head onto a canvas and slowly watching it develop into something completely new. Creating art is also very calming for me.

Being creative…

is one of the many character traits I inherited from my mom.

My outlet is…

unfortunately scrolling endlessly through social media. But my dog is helping me to overcome this bad habit and instead making me go on walks to let my mind roam without a phone.

It makes me proud to…

see visitors coming in our home and loving how I styled it.

If I wasn’t doing what I’m doing today, I would…

either want to be in the field of interior design or, if money doesn’t matter, have a doggy daycare.

Within the next five years, I/we will…

enjoy the time with our dog Kobe to the fullest because we adopted him with the knowledge of him having a tumour and not knowing the actual life expectancy.

If money wasn’t an object, I would…

love to have a second home in a warmer climate close to the sea.

Your home should…

be a place to recharge.

What I value most in my home, besides my family of course, is…

finally having the space for hosting friends and family and filling the place with memories. A dining table that easily sits 6 to 8 people is something I never thought I’ll have in an apartment when only renting instead of owning.

The feeling of home for me is…

making a cappuccino in the morning with my beloved portafilter machine, cuddling with Kobe and my boyfriend and lighting up scented candles in winter or opening all windows for a fresh breeze in summer.

The FRIDAY sofa speaks to my decor by…

being the centre piece and visual focus point of the room with its untypical shape yet soft and welcoming look. By standing freely in the middle of the room it connects the living and dining area without dividing the room.
